About the sheep card
So how did that sheep get stuck? Maybe he thought the grass looked greener on the other side? Maybe he was tired of being penned in? Regardless of the reason, he clearly found himself caught in a painful and humiliating position.
When Scriptures say that we are like sheep, it is actually a poetic way of saying that we are stupid and need to be led. But instead of despising us, God sees us the way we see the sheep on the inside of this card—as foolish and even lovable. God has compassion on us in our blindness, and even becomes a sheep Himself: the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
Sometimes I have an idea for a card in my head that I want to illustrate, and other times the idea comes from the images I find. In this case, I knew I wanted to do something with sheep when I began looking for photos online, but I wasn’t sure what verse I’d use—until I found these two pictures which fit together perfectly.
Even though this card doesn’t look particularly Christmassy, it perfectly illustrates the reason for the Incarnation. Besides, if the card looks different than other Christmas cards people receive, it’s more likely to be remembered.
